On the tracks of Danube Salmon – the King of alpine rivers. An adventure for true fishing lovers.

Huchen, Danube salmon or as it is scientifically known – Hucho Hucho is the biggest salmonid in Europe and a dream for many anglers. King and Queen of the upper sections of Danube`s tributaries. It might as well be the biggest freshwater fish you ever catch – up to 150 cm long and 50 kg weight. Huchen fishing, catching and releasing should be done with great respect for this magnificent species.

Slovenia should certainly be considered as a top place for fulfilling your fly fishing dreams. Huchen season opens on 1st of October and ends on 14th of February.

The guide of this program – Stanislav Mankov shares that it’d taken many years before he started catching this fish on fly. If he did not have the right mentors, he would probably still be hanging around without great success. Fishing for Huchen is not easy at all. Winter time fishing conditions can be rough. Being in a good physical shape is an advantage but knowledge on fish behaviour, astronomical sequence and the ability to read the waters are even more essential. Simply put, you have to be there at the right time and in the right place. Know what you are doing and do it consistently. This adventure is organised to optimise your chances to catch your next bucket list fish or just to make another angler` dream come true.

Fishing methods: Fly Fishing & Spinning.

First 3 nights we are going to stay in a guest house at Mozirje, fishing in 2 different spots of Savinja river. The next 4 days we are going to spend in guest house Kunstelj – located in the medieval town of Radovljica, fishing the rivers Sava & Sava Bohinjka. Both places are pretty cozy and have amazing local food options. Breakfasts and dinners will be served in our guest houses or we can also visit some local restaurants. Lunches will be pre-packed or cooked on the river.

This program will be guided by Stanislav Mankov – a world famous fly fisherman and definitely one of the best in the region. He gives a great rank to each of his tours and there is no doubt you will take a lot from his knowledge.

Travel to Slovenia: Depending on your location and preferences you may fly to Ljubljana or Zagreb which are the most convenient airports for this program. In this case we may arrange your transfer from the airport to the guest house and back. Another option is to come to Bulgaria first and to travel with us by car on the same price. In this case, we may arrange additional accommodation in Sofia before and/or after the program, if needed. Just let us know in advance for your itinerary. Prices of 3* hotels in Sofia are about 35 Euro for a double and 50 Euro for a single room.
