A Different Touch to Rila Mountain

JULY – AUG 2020

Come with us and get into the not so visited part of the mountain – a really fascinating and challenging trekking into Central and Southwest Rila.

Rila is the highest mountain in the Balkan peninsula. It is divided into 4 big regions – Northwest, Eastern, Central and Southwest. Most of the mountain lovers associate Rila mountains with Seven RIla lakes, Malyovitsa, Musala… Yes, we do know how beautiful they all are. May be you have also visited these places even more than once.

But definitely Rila hides much more than these well-known spots. And we want to take you exactly there – the “other” side of the mountain, not so easily accessible and not so often visited. We invite you to share with us a really fascinating and challenging trekking into Central and Southwest Rila full with lakes, high alpine traverses, a lot of peaks and old pine forests. We do believe that after this trip you would fall in love with Rila and would like to come back here again.

The difficulty level of this program (considering both duration and technical level) makes it suitable for people with a good stamina and without fear of heights. If you are not sure if this program fits to you, we recommend to call us in advance and we will help you to make a decision. We know that each good mountain experience starts with a proper route choice.

This program will be performed with minimum of 4 and no more than 10 persons.

Special price for a group of 6 and more people.

Note: A list of required equipment will be sent to you right after you sign in for this program. If you don’t have anything from it, we may assist you to get it. The most important thing for us are suitable mountain shoes.

Itinerary

Day 1 (Friday): Sofia – Semkovo – Ribni ezera hut
An early morning transfer from Sofia to Semkovo mountain resort (about 3 hours). We grab our backpacks and are moving to the main mountain ridge reaching it for about 3 hours, passing through Semkovo hut and the hidden cirque of Vapski lakes. We are going to hike to Redzhepitsa peak (often neglected by the tourist) with a spectacular view towards 3 different groups of lakes. From there we are crossing below the emblematic Kanarata peak in order to finally descend to Ribni (Fish) lakes hut beautifully situated just between both same named lakes. Duration: 6 hours. Highest point of the rout: 2678 m. asl.
Day 2 (Saturday): Ribni ezera hut – Makedonia hut
An amazingly picturesque and challenging day is in front of us. A classic but even though not so visited route due to its remoteness and technical level. Today we are moving solely on the mountain ridge, climbing several peaks with local names – one of them, Karaalanitsa (ex: Cherna polyana) is the highest point in Central Rila. And just to have even more of that, we are going to climb Kanarata peak for one final “good bye” view towards Ribni lakes and all other parts of RIla. Our final destination for this day is the small but very charmed Makedonia hut situated at Mechi pass. This col is located between Golyam (Big) Mechi peak and Malak (Small) Mechi peak and is also the invisible connection between Central and Soutwest Rila. Duration: 6-7 hours. Highest point of the rout: 2716 m. asl.
Day 3 (Sunday): Makedonia hut – Dobarsko hut - Semkovo
Not a single day without a peak. After the breakfast we are going to warm up with climbing of Malak Mechi peak, just above the hut. From here, in good weather, we have a magnificent view towards Pirin – the second highest mountain in Bulgaria. Saying good bye to Rila’s peaks we start descending to Dobarsko hut and then back to Semkovo, passing through breezy old pine forests. In our transfer back to Sofia we may stop in the relaxing mineral baths of Eleshnitsa village. Duration: 6-7 hours. Highest point of the rout: 2474 m. asl.
